Early Intervention Services
Whether you are looking for HIV prevention medication services or HIV care, our early intervention services (EIS) team is ready to help you. EIS specifically focuses on helping people with HIV access comprehensive care early in their diagnosis and treatment. They will learn about your needs and will identify social and financial support resources for those who qualify. These services aim to improve health outcomes by linking individuals to necessary medical care and support.
New Patient Process
The sooner you begin treatment for HIV, the better, so don’t delay reaching out to us. The first step to getting care is completing the intake (new patient) process.
During your intake appointment, we will:
- Review your insurance coverage (we will still provide treatment even if you don’t have insurance)
- Coordinate obtaining your prior medical records
- Schedule your first in-person visit and order lab tests
- Refill your HIV medication prescription if you are already have one (if necessary)
What to Expect: First Appointment
All clinicians at Petersen HIV Clinics specialize in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of HIV. During your first visit, you can expect to:
- Complete a primary care questionnaire
- Review your medical history
- Discuss your laboratory results
- Receive a prescription for HIV medication or review your current medications
- Meet your pharmacist and clinical coordinator
- Obtain future lab orders and schedule your next visit
- Get answers to your questions and discuss your concerns
- You may be asked to provide feedback about your appointment in a brief survey that we will use to improve our care
What to Expect: Follow Up Visits
In order to maintain your health in the long term, it’s important you take your HIV medication as prescribed and follow up with your physician as recommended. Failure to take these steps could result in your HIV progressing more rapidly and your health can suffer as a result.
Generally, your physician will order laboratory tests you’ll need to complete prior to each follow-up appointment. During your visit with your care team at Petersen HIV Clinics, you can expect to:
- Discuss your laboratory results
- Review your current medications and discuss any side effects
- Discuss your health and any problems you’ve been having
- Obtain future lab orders and schedule your next visit
