HIV Support Services

At the University of Arizona Petersen HIV Clinics, you’ll receive the care and support you need every step of the way, from prevention and testing through treatment and medication management. We’ll even guide you through the entire process and help you with financial and emotional support if you need it.

Clinical Coordination

The Petersen Clinics takes a team approach to your care and Clinical Coordination staff are available to help you before, during and after your HIV clinic visits. Navigating the healthcare system isn’t easy. At Petersen HIV Clinics, you’ll be paired with a clinical coordinator who will join you in the clinic during your appointments. The Clinical Coordinator is part of your clinical team, which consists of the provider, pharmacist and you! They are there to help you schedule follow-up appointments, referrals for other departments, lab coordination and much more. Call, text or email your Clinical Coordinator between visits to troubleshoot any issues that may get in the way of you successfully treating your HIV.

Clinical Coordinators coordinate outpatient clinical services for patients enrolled in the HIV program and they are at every appointment. Your Clinical Coordinator will work to understand your medical and social support needs and help to ensure access to HIV care and treatment. They help facilitate referrals as needed and provide clear follow-up instructions for your medical visits, medication, and follow-up lab work. Your Clinical Coordinator is an accessible point of contact for healthcare questions and facilitates patient/provider communication.

Treatment Adherence Support

Taking HIV medicine every day is vital to managing your HIV. That’s why our pharmacists meet directly with patients and physicians to create a treatment plan that includes minimizing drug interactions and managing side effects.

Petersen Clinics Pharmacists provide treatment adherence counseling and support during your appointments and between visits. The pharmacists also coordinate the Team-Rx (T-Rex) group. The group gathers multiple times per year and is a great place to learn about HIV treatment updates and to find peer support.

All patients are welcome to attend the T-Rex group. Just ask your pharmacist or clinical coordinator about how to sign up for updates about the group or email keeaz220@arizona.edu for more information.

Medical Case Management

As a patient of the University of Arizona Petersen HIV Clinics, you’ll get so much more than HIV testing and treatment. In addition to the expert care you’ll receive from our team of HIV specialty physicians and pharmacists, you can also lean on us for help with mental and emotional support and referrals to financial assistance.

Support Services

Receiving a diagnosis of HIV can be difficult. But you’re not alone. We’ll be here every step of the way. You can count on Petersen HIV Clinics for:

  • Medical case management, including benefits counseling as well as referrals to financial support programs, drug manufacturer assistance programs and community resources.
  • Clinical coordination, a service that makes it easier for patients to get follow-up care and have their concerns addressed.
  • Medication and treatment support from our team of pharmacists, who help with treatment adherence, managing side effects and drug interactions.
  • Financial support for medical care. Our case managers can help you apply for assistance programs in the event you are unable to afford your HIV medical visits or medication.

Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program

The Petersen Clinics participate in the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program, which provides HIV-related medical care to those who are unable to pay and who meet certain eligibility requirements. Funded by the Arizona Department of Health Services and the United States Health Resources Services Administration, our medical case managers can help determine if you are eligible for this program and assist you with the application process.
