As the patient, you are the most important part of your care team. We have put together a Patient Rights and Responsibilities document, which lists what you can expect from us and what we expect from you while in our care. Following these basic guidelines will help us achieve our shared goal — improving your health.
Patient Rights
As a Petersen HIV Clinics patient, your rights include:
- Nondiscriminatory access to medical services
- Considerate and respectful care
- Information about appropriate or medically necessary treatment options irrespective of costs or insurance coverage
- Safeguards to protect your personal health information
- Filing of complaints or grievances
Patient Responsibilities
As a Petersen HIV Clinics patient, your responsibilities include to:
- Advising us of any changes to your contact or insurance information within 30 days
- Providing accurate information about your medical and social history
- Learning about your HIV infection and its treatments
- Notifying your doctor or nurse of any changes in your health condition and status
- Adhering to your physician’s requests for office visits and referrals
- Arriving on time for scheduled appointments
- Expressing concerns and complaints regarding your treatment or care to the appropriate staff member on your care team

Filing a Complaint
We want to do everything possible to ensure you receive the best care possible. Please speak with a member of your care team if there is something we should be doing differently.
To file a complaint or grievance, refer to our Grievances and Complaints information which provides appropriate contact information. You can also contact your medical case manager or clinical coordinator to be connected to the best office to address your concerns.
